In this workshop led by Kathleen Smith you will learn to dye and print aluminium either using handmade stamps or the stamps provided. Kathleen has many years experience of painting, drawing and jewellery making. She has recently had public art commissions in Hull, Brighton, Lincoln and Birmingham as part of the city art trails. These trails were ‘A Moth for Amy’, ‘Snowdogs by the Sea’, ‘The Knights Trail ‘ and ’The Big Sleuth’. One of her designs was selected for the merchandise for The Big Sleuth and was featured on a mug, pen, fridge magnet, lanyard and tea towel. Kathleen has a degree in Jewellery and Object and has recently completed a MA in Design at the University of Lincoln. She also has qualifications in Life drawing and has exhibited both locally, nationally and internationally.
In this workshop you will use specialist aluminium inks to print with and a range of colours to dye the aluminium to create a base colour. After finishing the decoration the aluminium will be sealed before sanding and forming into a bangle and earrings using hammers and a forming mandrel. A materials and suppliers list will be given after the workshop and all materials will be provided.
The afternoon will be lighthearted and fun with of course The Haylofts famous coffee/tea and homemade cakes.
